Republic of South Africa 1994 General Election
by Manuel Álvarez-Rivera

The results of South Africa's first one-person, one-vote election, held on April 26-29, 1994, are available in this space, organized by provinces and districts, listed by their names at the time of the election. Since then, several provinces have changed their names, namely Eastern Transvaal (now Mpumalanga); Northern Transvaal (subsequently the Northern Province; now Limpopo); the Orange Free State (now the Free State); and Pretoria-Witwatersrand-Vereeniging (PWV; now Gauteng Province).

The statistics available here come from reports issued on May 26, 1994 by the IEC's Election Administration Directorate, courtesy of Andrew Reynolds.

A description of South Africa's electoral system is available here.

This site now features interactive election maps as well as a lookup facility for fast access to nationwide- and provincial-level 1994 and 1999 general election results.
